REDFERN, NSW REAL ESTATE BUYERS AGENTS

    Location and Transport Links

Redfern is located approximately 3 kilometres south of the CBD in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs in the local government area of Sydney. Redfern station is one stop south of Central Station and is therefore accessible via multiple train lines. Busses also travel up Chalmers Street to the CBD.

    Property types

Redfern is famous for its renovated Victorian terraces and converted warehouse buildings with original façades. More recently, a large number of modern apartment complexes have sprung up. Yet to be developed is the controversial Aboriginal site on Eveleigh Street near Redfern Station known as ‘The Block.’ The site was slated for a $60 million mixed use development but encountered  The suburb is in the later stages of gentrification and many properties have now been renovated or converted from commercial/industrial space into residential housing.

    Shops and Restaurants

The main shopping strip is on Redfern Street and the bars and cafés offer an eclectic mix of décor from grungy to sleek. Cleveland Street and Elizabeth Street also offer a host of shops, cafés and restaurants. In addition, Surry Hills Shopping Centre is actually located on Baptist Street in Redfern and includes Coles Supermarket.

The nearby Eveleigh Farmers Market runs every Saturday and is one of the most popular markets in the Inner West. The market is particularly popular with organic food devotees. Surry Hills shops and Dank Street, Waterloo cafés are also just around the corner.

    Schools and Educational Facilities

Redfern has two local schools; Key College (combined primary/secondary) and Redfern Jarjum College (Primary) and is fortunate to have access to a host of nearby schools. Nearby secondary or combined primary/secondary schools include Brent Street and Sydney Boys and Girls High Schools in Moore Park, Taylors College and Green Square School in Waterloo, Alexandria Park Community School in Alexandria, Australian Performing Arts Grammar School in Glebe, International Grammar School in Ultimo, and Sydney Grammar School, SCEGGS and East Sydney High School in Darlinghurst.

Nearby Primary Schools include Bourke Street Public School and Crown Street Public School in Surry Hills, Our Lady of Mt Carmel School in Waterloo, Darlington Public School in Chippendale, Erskineville Public School and St Mary’s School in Erskineville, Glebe Public School and St James Primary School in Glebe and Ultimo Public School in Ultimo.

    Recreation and other Amenities

The suburb is home to Redfern Park which benefited from a $32m ‘facelift’ in 2014 which involved constructing a state of the art sports field with flood lighting and a new grandstand. The park’s extensive network of walking and cycling paths were also upgraded. There are also cycleways or shared paths throughout Redfern including along George Street, Morehead Street, Redfern Street, Baptist Street and Bourke Street.

Moore Park is adjacent to Redfern and includes Moore Park Golf Course, the Entertainment Quarter as well as many venues for large events such as Allianz Stadium, Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground and Moore Park Showground.

     Why people live in Redfern?

A vibrant food, wine and arts scene with easy access to the CBD.
