Balgowlah Heights is located on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, 9 kilometres north east of the CBD in the Manly LGA. The E32 express bus travels from Balgowlah Heights to Manly Wharf in the morning peak hour and connects with ferry services departing for circular quay (and vice versa in the afternoon)..
Almost all properties in Balgowlah Heights consist of detached houses. Traditionally the suburb was filled with federation era houses, but they are quickly being replaced by large modern houses and duplexes built to capitalise on the potential views. Apartments make up another 40% and are a mix of styles from federation to art deco, 70’s ‘red brickers’ and modern security complexes with lifts and large terraces.
The local shopping village on the corner of New Street West and Beatrice Street and includes a butcher, bakery, deli, fruit shop and florist, pharmacy, hairdresser and IGA supermarket plus liquor store. Other nearby shops with more even more choice include Stockland Balgowlah with over 60 stores including Coles supermarket and Fitness First gym, Seaforth shopping strip on Sydney Road and Warringah Mall, which is currently being expanded to offer more than 340 stores in total and additional parking.
Balgowlah Heights Public School is the local primary school. Northern Beaches Secondary College has boys and girls campuses in Balgowlah and Manly Vale respectively.
Boats, kayaks, surf skis and stand up paddle boards (SUPs) are available for hire in Middle Harbour. Tania Park is a permitted off-leash dog park while Forty Baskets Beach is a lovely spot to relax and has barbeque areas, toilet facilities and a playground and tidal ocean pool for the kids. The beach is also situated along the Manly Scenic walkway, which you can take either to Manly or to the Spit Bridge. It offers stunning tranquil views of Jilling Cove and Manly Cove stretching over Sydney Harbour past the heads as you walk further around.
Golfing fans are spoilt for choice with Balgowlah, Manly, Warringah and Wakehurst Golf Clubs all within short driving distance. The Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton Swim Centre is currently undergoing an expansion and will shortly feature an indoor 25m pool, children’s pool, spa pool, sauna, steam room, fitness centre and crèche in addition to the existing 25m and 50m outdoor pools.
