Alfords Point is located in the Sutherland Shire, approx. 28 kilometres south of the Sydney Central Business District. It has a small group of shops and local restaurants on Brushwood Drive—which also serves as the entrance and exit point to the suburb.

Alfords Point has sporting ovals named Casuarina Road Oval and Narina Park which are used for soccer and cricket local competitions. This suburb is abundant in bushlands as it is positioned in the shores of the Georges River and National Park. Locals enjoy walking tracks and fire trails in summer.
In this closely-knit community, the school children get to enjoy and host various community events in the Alfords Point Primary School. The Alfords Point Pre-School Kindergarten is located opposite to the shops.
Alfords Point is a tightly held suburb with low turnover. According to Residex, 0.29% of properties in the suburb are currently on the market which shows that there are a few listed properties for a population of more than 3,000. Average growth in the last 10 years both for houses and units are also high which is at 5.4% p.a. and 4.2% p.a. respectively.
